DON’t BACK DOWN !
I love that the Bible details the perfect plan God has for our lives. I get so excited when I read that God offered a Promised Land as the inheritance to the Israelites as it reminds me that He also has an inheritance for each of us.
Just like with the Israelites, It isn’t all plain sailing though! We usually have a fight to contend with. God had given the land to Abraham and his descendants years before but when they finally arrived at the land after wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, they faced a challenge.
The land was being occupied by powerful nations and Joshua (who God chose to lead the people into their inheritance) had a choice to make. He could either sit back and accept the circumstances he faced or he could get in the fight to take back what God had already given him. Joshua refused to back down; nothing could stop him from claiming what was rightfully his.
Being told we have a “Promised Land” is not the same as actually possessing it. That’s like being left a large cheque by a loved one but remaining in poverty because we never cashed it in! Obviously we still own it but we can’t draw anything from it. The challenge for all of us is it to take possession of what God says is rightfully ours. We should never back down!
In Romans 8 God calls us more than conquerors yet how many of us are conquering the battles that we face. The battles that say there is no hope left, that we are not worthy, that we can never see a victory. It is so easy to fear and to shrink back especially when things come to take us off track when we least expect them.
I don’t know what you are facing today or what you will face in the future but I do know that God has given you the tools to win your battle. Claiming our inheritance requires us to have courage to confront the “goliaths in life” that seem to spring up from nowhere and block our paths in a bid to prevent us from possessing what God has already given us.
The truth is that God is on our side and therefore there is no Goliath that is big enough to intimidate us, nevermind beat us. Our minds may feel as though they are being occupied by a powerful enemies but we need to remember that we have the power to take every thought captive. God is with us and the victory is ours for the taking. It’s time to fight for our “Promised Land.” We need to fight for our joy, our peace, our health, our families and our relationships.
Let’s not sit back any longer with a 'make do’ attitude. We are the rightful owners of every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms so let’s take back everything that has been stolen from us.
